I would drive from Indianapolis, IN just to skate it. Skate park tours are a more common form of entertainment these days, and they help the local economy by bringing tourists. Just look at the Bowling Green, KY skate park and the Kettering, OH skate plaza. People drive from all over the place just to skate it.
There are scant youth activies to be had in this area. West Virginia has lost significant enough of a population to lose a Representative in the U.S. House within the past 20 years. While I’m not inferring full causation, I’m certain there is an inverse correlation between willingness to stay in one’s birthplace and how little there is to do in said birthplace. If no social opportunities are available to “the next generation,” then why would they want to stay here?

Throughout the year I try to make at least five (5) visits or “skate trips” to various skate parks/plazas each year. When I go on these trips I spend money in the community where these skate parks/plazas are. So there is the first good reason to build a skate park/plaza in your community; economical stimulation through increase of tourism. Even if it is still someone who is visiting from instate.
Don’t let the ball stop rolling guys. You will have your skate park/plaza and everyone outside of your community will be jealous. Just means they will be spending their days hanging out in Parkersburg, WV.

My little brother is a skateboarder, as are a lot of our friends. They never had anywhere to skate and got harassed a lot by everyone. Sometimes their got boards taken away, thats not cool (those things are not cheap being at least $50 a pop).They got a short lived break, from the nice people in Belpre that built a park, but we know what happened with that (and it was NOT the skaters who did that ) Mabey Marietta and P-burg should combine efforts. Plus, it’s great exercise. If you need volunteers email me I’ll do whatever i can whenever I can (and donate some money too)
I think we need a skatepark do to you always get kicked out. now you even get kicked out of schools. it sucks.if there was a park i would be there when the sunny side was up all day long.

I used to skate alot, and since i could only skate on roads and church parking lots it got boring. so i started riding BMX. I think that If you make this skatepark you should definently have a BMX section!
I grew up in Vienna and graduated from PHS in 1975. Currently, our family of 5 resides in Colorado, but we come to Parkersburg every year to see my folks. In Colorado we have literally hundreds of skate parks and both my sons have been skating since they were around 4. They always bring their skate boards with them when we come back to WV, but we usually end up going to Athens or Skatopia to get their skating in.
Skating is such a big part of our lives. We even built a web site with our latest skateboarding adventures. (www.sk8ne1.com). Our kids are much more interested in skating than video games, you see, in Colorado everyone supports skateboarding since the stereotypes are long gone. We have skated all over the country and over the years, I have learned to respect the unique qualities of the sport.
We’ll be visiting my folks through the end of July and I’m sure every day my boys we demand to drive up to Marietta to skate. Clearly, Parkersburg needs a skate park and quite frankly I’m surprised they didn’t build one years ago.
Parkersburg desperactely needs a skatepark. Many of my friends are skaters, and they have nowhere to go except on the city streets and properties. If the city is going to complain as often as they do about the skateboarders in the area, they should do something to help. The skate plaza is exactly what we need, and I would totally learn to skateboard so I could visit it.

Newsflash: America’s children are obese. Any city that has any chance at all to prevent unhealthiness should seize it. Millions of kids participate in the sport of skateboarding, and thousands more would if there were more places to do it. Many kids have no legal place to practice their sport, so instead they go inside to play video games, causing childhood obesity to go up. If every town had a creative environment for youth, like a skate plaza, teens would be happier, healthier, and they would be better role models for all those little kids that look up to skaters like they are the coolest thing since sliced bread. Skate plazas are a great community building experience because of all the local people it takes to make a plaza happen, and plazas can be a great addition to a community. Stated simply: everyone should have a place to practice the sport of their choosing, and skaters are discriminated against time and time again because no community leader is willing to stretch out there hand and help the cities youth. They want a skate plaza, I want a skate plaza, WE want a skate plaza. Please make it happen.

I attended a Parkersburg City Council meeting about skateboarding with my father in 1990. Then again in the late ’90s. Sakteboarding is not a fad. The youth of Parkersburg deserve a skatepark; it will enrich their lives.

Been wanting a skate park for years so it’d be real nice to see it actually happen
we still need to have another comp like ink fest that was awesome even if i did break some spokes ginding or fall in the big hole in the parkin lot and im going to try to make it to the car wash this weekend lets go (psp)
Newsflash: America’s children are obese. Any city that has any chance at all to prevent unhealthiness should seize it. Millions of kids participate in the sport of skateboarding, and thousands more would if there were more places to do it. Many kids have no legal place to practice their sport, so instead they go inside to play video games, causing childhood obesity to go up. If every town had a creative environment for youth, like a skate plaza, teens would be happier, healthier, and they would be better role models for all those little kids that look up to skaters like they are the coolest thing since sliced bread. Skate plazas are a great community building experience because of all the local people it takes to make a plaza happen, and plazas can be a great addition to a community. Stated simply: everyone should have a place to practice the sport of their choosing, and skaters are discriminated against time and time again because no community leader is willing to stretch out there hand and help the cities youth. They want a skate plaza, I want a skate plaza, WE want a skate plaza. Please make it happen.

Yeah we need a skatepark. It sucks we don’t have one now. I hope we get one. Even though i ride bikes most of the time, i skate a little bit.
Parkersburg definetly needs a skatepark. I remember growing up and there was no where to skate other than in parking lots and on the sidewalks. There needs to be a designated area for skaters to let loose without being harrassed.
i may not be a skater,but my guy is & i know he’d love to have a park around pburg.id love to learn but i fall on my ass every time i try haha, but the point is people say to do what you love & if by chance it’s borarding then that’s great,but then you get bitched at if you skate in certain places & everything.SO BUILD US A PARK!
it’d be a great investment for the city.
i am a skater in Frisco Texas and there is so much talent up here, but we don’t have no where to go. all the spots we use to skate are bust now. if we could get a plaza out here it would help skaters have a place to go

it sucks to half to go all the way to athens or mareta to skate at the skate parks i`m tired of getting chased by security guards downtown
This has needed to happen for a long time. It is a positive influence for the kids and personally it will be nice to have a park to skate when I come home to visit.
who all thinks that bikes need to be aloud to ride at the skate plaza??

i want a skate plaza is Parkersburg…i drive all the way to Athens all of the time..a park a little closer to home would be awesome. i ride bmx and bmx needs to be aloud, just as many people ride bikes who skate. thanks

A plaza would be dope… just let bikes in, we arent going to cause anymore damage then skaters are going too.

I attended a Parkersburg City Council meeting about skateboarding with my father in 1990. Then again in the late ’90s. Sakteboarding is not a fad. The youth of Parkersburg deserve a skatepark; it will enrich their lives.
you need to let bikes there is no were to ride in belpre it sucks
