Little Kanawha Park Photos

I took a drive today down to the Little Kanawha Park, which will be the home of the E.L.I.T.E. Sports Facility which is currently in construction, and will also be the home of our skate plaza. I wasn’t sure exactly how to get there, but with a little help from Google Maps I figured it had to be Fairfax Street that takes you there.

Strangely, according to Google Maps Fairfax Street turns into an imaginary 1st Avenue. Right now there is only dirt, gravel, and allot of would be pot holes …

E.L.I.T.E. All Sports Facility

If you haven’t read the newspaper yet today, Joe and Terry Crislip from the soon to be E.L.I.T.E. All Sports Facility recently requested additional funding for needed infrastructure that will serve their facility as well as the skate plaza and other public facilities through out the park. If you have looked over or are familiar with the area, you know that is it a great central location for skaters from all over the area, however, in it’s current state is not exactly the most accessible area.

Skate Plaza Rendering

Today we received a sample rendering of what will be the Little Kanawha River Park, which will include the skate plaza. The Foundation in association with the Downtown Taskforce Committee is planning for a ground breaking sometime in Fall 2009. The rendering below is simply a sort of landscape model for the whole park, so don’t panic when you see the crude sketch of the plaza.
However, unless you want to go with the rectangle/tree/lopsided circle blueprint seen below, you are going to need to show up to our next meeting …

More Info On New Location

“PARKERSBURG – With a location likely decided, the Downtown Taskforce’s skatepark committee is considering its options for funding a proposed $400,000 concrete skate park.The proposed skatepark got a partial green light Monday, when the City Council’s Public Works Committee approved the use of city property on First Avenue along the Little Kanawha River as the site for the park.
