Last year we held a car wash during Memorial Day weekend, same time, same location, but completely different turn out. We were hoping to be as busy as we were last year but for some reason it just didn’t turn out the same. But none the less we did our thing, some people still came out, and the last I counted were made some where around $120.
(Casey said he couldn’t make it so he is here by banned for eternity from the plaza)
I just wanted to remind everyone about our car wash this Sunday, which I have to apologize for posting the wrong times a few days ago where I said it will be 11:00am-3:00pm, but in fact will be 12:00pm-4:00pm.
Sunday, May 30th, 12:00pm-4:00pm at the Vienna Wendys
So we hope to see you there as we continue to raise a few last dollars for the plaza and while we are at it we can take some time to gloat over the $100,000 grant and day dream about how great it is going to be.
It’s always comical to read the eccentric negative comments on wtap.com or newsandsentinel.com whenever there is news about the skate plaza. This comment is a bit different, however. It is being treated as a serious or respectable point of view and apparently was an actual article in the newspaper. The article implies you are less important than kids who play with bouncy balls, I mean basketballs, and even goes as far to say that we should be ashamed of ourselves for thinking you were.
I guess the important thing is not to loose faith in your community and even though there are still cynical individuals out there, like this, remember there are still many supportive ones out there, like us, and hopefully one day, like you.
We finally got word back on our $100,000 application for the Federal Land and Water Conservation Grant from the U.S. Department of the Interior, and it’s a go! This puts us up to $290,000 and we will begin interviewing skate park contractors over the next few months. If everything goes well we could have the facility finished as early as fall 2010.
If you are a contractor with skate plaza experience and would like to apply for the job, please contact Parkersburg Development Director, Ann Conageski, at firstname.lastname@example.org and she will send you all the information and paper work needed to apply.
Eric Cunningham just wanted to stop by to wish everyone a Happy Cinco De Mayo…
Its that time of year again for our Memorial Day weekend car wash. We have had a lot of success with this date so make sure to show up and give us a hand. It will be at the Vienna Wendys as always, Sunday May 30th 11:00am – 3:00pm.
Katie Petrish has also been doing a lot lately. She recently held our first ever Can Crushing Party at her house where we were able to get a lot of the cans crushed that have been piling up. She has been taking a number of trips to the Wheeling skate park with the kids and sent some photos of the park my way to share with all of you. She has been emailing out newsletters on a monthly or twice a monthly basis, and if you would like to be included just drop her a line at email@example.com
